Description
Stainless Steel Butt Weld Elbow (Short Radius)
Butt weld elbows are a type of fitting used in pipelines or plumbing systems to direct and provide turns for pipes. These elbows ensure the correct routing of the pipes.
Butt weld elbows are available in various sizes and angles depending on the pipe diameter and the required turning angle.
Elbows manufactured according to the ASTM A403 standard are generally available at 45° or 90° angles. These angles are chosen based on the needs of the pipeline and design requirements.
90° Elbows: The most commonly used type of elbows. They change the flow direction of the pipeline at a right angle and are typically used where the pipeline needs to make a turn while moving in a straight line.
45° Elbows: These are preferred for lighter turns or to meet specific design requirements. These elbows change the flow direction of the pipeline at a softer angle.
Long Radius Elbows: These elbows have a longer bend radius, allowing for smoother and more gradual flow, reducing pressure loss and minimizing wear. Due to their larger radius, they allow for a broader turning radius in the pipeline. Long radius elbows are typically used where the pipeline needs to turn.
Radius: This refers to the distance from the center point of the elbow’s bend curve to the centerline of the pipe. This defines the degree of the elbow’s bend and, consequently, the angle at which the flow changes direction.
Short Radius Elbows: These have a smaller bend radius, causing the flow to make a sharper turn. They are preferred when a rapid flow turn is needed or when space constraints prevent the use of a long radius. However, it should be noted that short radius elbows may cause more pressure loss and wear in the flow.
The radius measurement in elbows is calculated as follows. For example, for SR:
1″ (33.4 mm Elbow) = 1D x 25.4 = 25.4 mm
For:
1-1/4″ (42.2 mm Elbow) = 1.5D x 32 = 48 mm
For 3D Elbow:
2″ (60.3 mm Elbow) = 3D x 51 = 153 mm
